The CIA should be allowed to use whatever means are necessary to extract information from terrorists. If we aren’t allowed to use even some of the tactics that they use on us we may never be able to get information from them, which in turn could make us more suseptible to another terrorist attack.
“More power to the CIA,” states a student that declined to give information. “If it’s going to protect my wellbeing, then I want them to do what they have too.”
Some would argue against letting the CIA to use any means necessary to extract information. We would be lowering our standards as Americans to treat people the way the terrorists do. The thing that most people that are in support of this don’t understand is how we can let the terrorists chop off our soldiers heads, starve journalists, and kill them ruthlessly, but for us to use certain tactics such as swirlees, titty twisters, indian burns and wedgies among other things. Even if such techniques as making prisoners listen to loud music, not being allowed to read their book of religion, or even to make them eat food that they are not accustomed too.
Most of the torture that the CIA wants to do is not physical harm, what they want to do is issue psychological warfare---they want to get into suspect’s head to extract information leading to our nation’s safety and security.
Another item that people bring up is that the suspects should be treated as well and if not better as Americans. These people are being treated a certain way because of the way they have been acting. Suspected terrorists should be treated the way they are and should be forced to torture or better be able to give a good answer to why they were doing what they were.
Some also argue that the Geneva Convention should be applicable to the suspects that we apprehend. Why should we give them the convience of the Geneva Convention if they have not agreed to abide by the convetion themselves? They use their own means of torture to gain information from us, which is to be considered inhumane, but when our tactics are used on the enemy, immediately accusations of war crimes and inhumane torture are brought to the table.
What will be considered inhumane next? Forcing them to listen to heavy metal, jazz or even the Backstreet Boys? It seems that if the government tries to put more sanctions on the way that we can treat the enemy we will lose this war faster and lose more men and women here and over on the battlefield.

I would probably consider being forced to listen to The Backstreet Boys torture of the worst sort. On the other hand, I'm thankful that at least a few young folks in California seem to understand what a basketcase that socialist experiment has become. Andrew, you and your friends represent the future of the state. May you all stay true to the desires of our Founding Fathers...
Thanks to Bush, now any authority could deem you a terror suspect, detain you indefinitely in a secret prison, and “torture” you whether or not you have done anything wrong. Are you telling me that you actually trust government with that kind of power?
The slippery slope you support leads us into a very dark age. Currently, there are more American reporters serving jail time and being threatened with prosecution than at any other period in U.S. history, simply because they value their right to source confidentiality.
The Reagan FBI subverted the career of a Berkeley Professor because they deemed his liberal speeches threatening. In a despicable and cowardly manner they employed covert actions to bring the sinister culprit down. Hooray for America.
Now we have umpteen thousand Middle Eastern men incarcerated without evidence of any wrongdoing because they were rounded up in the middle of the night in a raid conducted by soldiers who do not understand the language that got a tip from an ‘informant’ that someone in the area may be a bad guy. If you think it is OK to torture these people I suggest doing a bit more research.
As for our Founding Fathers, they must be rolling over in their graves. George Washington was a proponent for excellent treatment of war prisoners, and as a result many switched over to our side.
Also, the phrase “innocent until proven guilty” has been a cornerstone of modern civilization for over two hundred years, though it seems to me that you are willing to give up that right. So be it. Just let it be known that was your opinion when several years from now, as we watch civilization unravel, we wonder how it all began.
“The terrorists started this war,” some would protest. I wish to remind them that we are the superpower. It’s a lot like being a responsible adult. Life sucks. Bad things happen. It is the handling of difficult situations that determines ones fate, and not just what life delivers to their doorstep.
“So this is how liberty dies, with thunderous applause,” said Senator Amidala in Star Wars. Your support for torture is exactly what she was talking about.
